Point buy with more points - I'm thinking thirty, but with the following restriction: only one stat may be less than ten and only one other can be less than twelve. No smart fighters, charming barbarians and certainly not brawny wizards! This also means that selecting a background that goes 'against' the obvious is quite suboptimal: you may gain some skills that are untypical for your class, but you lack ability scores to utilise them properly. The particular thing that bother me that 'flavour' or 'hobby' stat are discouraged if it is not essential to your job, it gets a ten at best. Looking at the 'Fair stat rolls' thread it seems I am not alone in this. I have been pondering about various ability generation methods and whilst I loathe randomness in such matters, the standard point buy has an unfortunate tendency to encourage pretty boring and formulaic characters. Usually when people suggest more points for point buy, it is so that characters can buy starting stats higher than fifteen.
